concrete runway and affiliated facilities left

developed to accommodate foreign tourists. Hangers
and maintenance buildings left behind by the British
were taken up to develop several garment factories.
The
holiday resort on Gan, Equator Village with 78 rooms
is quite different to all the others in the
Maldives. The rate of the development has picked up
considerably since Kaimoo Travels in Male' took over
the hotel. Plans to revive the 18 hole golf course
maintained by the British were shelved as some of
the fairways were around the runway security area.
