Club Med Kani HR Manager wounded in attack
By KL | May 5, 2008
The Human Resource Manager of Club Med Kani Resort was wounded during a disturbance at the resort, last Friday afternoon.
A man from the resort said that incident had occurred during Friday prayers and that a man called Adil Rasheed, of Nasseemee Hiyaa in Haa Alifu atoll Dhidhdhoo, had attacked the HR Manager of the resort Abdul Samad with a box-cutter and had also shattered the window of the HR Office. He said the attack had been prompted when the HR Manager had threatened to fire Adil who worked in the resort’s kitchen.
“Even before this there had been rumours that he was doing drugs,” the man from the resort told Haveeru on condition of anonymity. “He had been advised several times to shape up. However when he didn’t stop he was taken to talk to the HR Manager. That’s when the fight broke out.”
He said that the angered man had attacked the HR Manager with a pencil and then slashed at him with a box-cutter. Abdul Samad had suffered a three-inch long gash on his forearm but no serious injuries in the ordeal, the man said.
According to Club Med resort, other staff members had entered the HR Office to rescue the HR Manager and locked up the office. Adil had threatened those who came to Samad’s rescue and had shattered the window of the Office.
“We managed to subdue him and tie him to a tree,” said the man from the resort. “Then we called the Police. Police officers from Thulusdhoo arrived pretty quickly and took him away.”
