Hi We have booked to go in September 08 and have just read the reviews on the net from several websites, they look pretty grim, bad smells building debis unfinished hotel , bar in fact just about everything you dont want on a holiday. by the looks of it it is no where near compleate. One man who was due to go in February rang First Choice who he booked through and got them to change him over to another Island. It looks like its not going to be finished for a long time and with the monsoon season aproaching end of March it wont be done for our Holiday, So I am going to do the same as soon as possible.

Please can somebody be reassuring??

Both my partner and I have just booked to go to the resort in Aug 08 for our honeymoon and I am worried I have made an awful mistake!
I have just been reading some reviews and I am affraid to say that they were n’t very positive!!
It seems that it is far from the resort that it boasts in the brochure. I am hoping that it will been completed by our holiday dates!!

Non-payment of salary by Maldivian Employer during period May 2007 to October 2007

I, the undersigned, my wife and son warmly welcome you to SriLanka on your proposed visit to Colombo this month. We Srilankans are friends of Maldivian nationals for thousands of years. Evan though I was not paid and cheated by a Maldivian employer we (My family) have no grudge against your citizens (“ Nahi werani verani”). As an Srilankan Sinhalese Buddhist I observe five principals (pancha seela) and neither telling lies not stealing others property and also not encouraging others to do so. Therefore without any hesitation I am writing this letter to your Excellency that Equadhoo Investment Private Limited registered company in Republic of Maldives violated contract signed by us and deprived my salaries
I was informed this matter to your Excellency by my letter dated 11th October 2007 and informed to ministry of Higher Educations, Employments and Social Security through Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry. I deeply regret to inform you that no positive response I was received from Maldivian labour relations department except Mr. Mauroof Ahmed, Director (Letter dated 04/12/07, 154-L/72/2004/24) informing that they have not received a complain. However I wish to mentioned that I myself faxed a copy of my letter addressed to you on 11th October 2007 to the Labour relations department and I received reply from the Executive Director of the President’s office on 01st November 2007 (1-PRS/MIS/2007/425) informing that he also forwarding a copy of same letter to the Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security.

Your Excellency the president I am not begging for my salary. I am very proud to be a Srilankan. I am requesting money belongs to me legally. I trusted Maldivian employer and came to work to your country. When he was not paying for many months as per my contract I gave one-month notice to resign from the company and sent copies to the Island office, and Labour relation department saying that I have been not paid at that time. I came to work but I had no intention to go to court wasting my time spending my money and risk my life.
Therefore I kindly request you to consider this matter and direct concern authorities to pay my salaries with reasonable fine for the delay without further delay. I hope that justices will be done

I wish you long life and good health. I wish very happy and prosperous year 2008 to citizens of Maldives. I wish that all expatriate employees working for Maldivian employers will be received their salaries I pray for Peace and happiness to their families.

I have just returned from a week in Meeru today 18th Dec 07. I confirm that there were a lot of dead fish being washed up on the shore and also apparent in the sea. The fish were blue triggers and Picasso triggers. No other fish appeared to be affected. The dead fish on the neach appeared untouched by other fish, but I observed dead ones being eaten by others whilst snorkelling. There seemed to be lots of blue triggers around (1000’s)in large shoals on the house reef. If anyone can keep me posted on updates…. thanks

Have the team at Herathera considering an apology to those of us who ended up having to make the best of a holiday at a different resort. A resort selected by the travel company for the convenience of the travel company on the day of departure for Herathera.
A destination not of the customers choosing but chosen by the travel company simply because it had vacancies.
Necessitated because Herathera were incorrect and over optimistic about completion dates at the beginning of November please?

We are supposed to be travelling to this resort 31st Dec.Thomas Cook our travel operator will not respond to any of our calls.The holiday has cost £10000 pounds between five of us so i view this an expensive holiday and expected a top class hotel.I’m disabled so i would not be able to walk around on uneven ground surrounded by rubbish etc.I feel so stressed by the lies and treatment we have recieved.Do not know what to do next.

I am among the group of visitors from the UK who were told in writing by the Herathera team that the island would be ready to receive us on the 6th November 2007.
I cannot express strongly enough how disappointed and dismayed I was to be told only 2 hours before leaving the UK that Herathera was not in fact open, and that we were to be sent to a different island.
I understand how important this development is to the Maldivian people. However, if you want people to trust in this important development it would be unwise, I tentatively suggest, to let too many other visitor have the same disappointing experience as us.
An opening date that truly reflects the situation would be appreciated by many people in the UK. If you would like to seek confirmation, a look at the Herathera forum will corroborate my statements.
I have enjoyed many visits to the Maldives and am sorry to now be a disappointed visitor.

The resort was actually not finished by anymeans…They did not have enough rooms also ready that time, no restaurant, bar, spa, dive, sports, etc were ready that time..not even uniforms were given to staffs… this happened actually due to failure in organizing of the management. Housekeeping, Food & beverage was not functioning, billing system was not active…So how can the resort be ready…Some rooms are still not even laid the foundation….If the management is taking action the resort should be open by at least December 1st. but this date also we all Adduans doubt as we know that Mr. chairman lied to media openly thinking that we all adduans are fools and blind.
Any way let’s check from the media and before you leave please make sure you have some pic’s at least for assurance of the finishing of the resort.

As you have read from the news, the delay occurred on Herathera after Thomas Cook stated that the resort “was not ready for guests”. MTDC has been saying that the island will be ready on time. But at the last minute, it had to be delayed. They now estimate that the delay would be two to three weeks. Again we have to take their word for it. We are not sure if it would again be delayed or how long it will take.

One thing for sure is Thomas Cook will not be bringing in tourists until the resort is 100% ready. For further information we suggest that you contact MTPB.

It’s great to see the hotel taking shape. I was on site in November, researching an article for the Travel section of the Sunday Times in London. Herathera is a beautiful island. I’ve got great hopes for the resort.
